A cam belt or timing belt, controls the timing of an engines valves so is vitally important to the workings of the engine. Many people do not realise that the cambelt on your car needs to be changed at set intervals (and this is something you should look for when buying a second hand car – evidence that it has been changed). Your manufacturer will set out exactly how many thousands of miles your timing belt needs to be changed at. For many cars this is around the 80,000 miles mark. In most cars since the cambelt joins the crankshaft to the camshaft, it is quite difficult to get to and many parts of the engine have to be dismantled to replace it. However, it is important to get the belt changed at the set interval as although we can repair any damage if the belt does snap before you get it changed, the damage caused can be many times the cost of having the belt changed.
If you think your cambelt needs replacing please contact us for an instant quote.
Please note: - If you drive a diesel car, we will ask you if your cambelt/timing belt has been changed at the correct interval when booking an MOT. Because there are parts of the MOT that require your car to be revved to 3000 rpm, this can cause a cambelt to snap. If we believe the cambelt history is unknown, or there are any unsual noises emitted from the engine, the emission test will not be completed and the vehicle could fail the test. This is in accordance with VOSA regulations.
